August 9 Day 39 Ride out to Portage and back to the House 13 Miles 287 climbing

Today the Milwaukee crew packed up and road to town for a few days at home. The Texans just chilled out and eventually would get our act together to ride into Portage. We opted tomorrow to ride to Devil's Lake, a short day, only a 60 miler. Portage was a town where the Indians and fur trappers would get to the river to do their trading. Portage is a thriving town, we locked our bikes up in front of the Corner Bar and Grill. A good choice, we enjoyed it so much we decided to come back for the Friday night fish fry.
After riding around the town just checking out the neighborhoods and shops we headed back across the Wisconsin River to county road U.
The pups found the water at the back of the house. They took great delight in rolling around in the mud, digging holes and chasing each other. The water you see on the other side is the Wisconsin River.
Driving back the sunset was putting on quite a show. Red Sky at night is a cyclist delight.
Tomorrow we ride to Devil's Lake.
