August 14 Day 44 Ferry to Greenville 58 Miles 1389 Climbing

It's a beautiful morning and everyone is off the ferry. It was a rough ride across the water several were not feeling well when they got off. Larry's wife, Joy was there with coffee, juice, and pastries for everyone. There were also several of his friends there to see him and us off on the rest of our adventure. Joy had us all put on oven mitts and pledge to be safe on the rest of our journey.
This water tower was an interesting design. We stopped for a break in this little town
And here is the stop.
Now this guy's name is Pat. The only other time you may have seen him was on the first day when we put out rear wheels in the water in Astoria Oregon. Pat thinks we are all bike racers because we wear Lycra. Once we started up our journey we never saw him again. Chris would hear from him every now and then. Pat would give him an update on his whereabouts. He is camping rather than pay for a hotel room. His was one of Chris's first customers and he is 70 years old. Today I learned he road a minimum of 100 miles a day. He got to Milwaukee 3 weeks before we did. He was with everyone on the ferry because his ticket was already paid for. He probably rode with us for about 15 miles and then went on his way.
This trail we road was smooth and quite pleasant. It went for about 20 miles.
I had to get a photo of this. When was the last time you saw a tire swing?
These are apple trees and they went for miles.
When they told us we were having lunch in Sparta we all were reminded of Sparta in Wisconsin. On the bike trail. This Sparta is in the heart of apple country.
Tessa Chris's daughter will be our sag for the next week. Jim rode with her today to make sure she would be comfortable with the truck, camper and trailer. They found a great place for the lunch stop.
Joy was their with some wonderful delicacies for lunch. She brought Bacon. Now that was a surprise.
I've told you about Harold and his quest to not drink the same beer twice. This is his bike and helmet.
The sticker on his helmet says "amazing healing power of beer."  I asked him how many beers his had now. He is up to 160 beers. Later this after noon he said even though he has had that many beers, he has managed to lose 10 pounds on this trip so far.
Two beautiful horses. I stopped to take their picture and they came up to pose for me.
So Joy had a cocktail party at the trailer for everyone. Friends of hers and Larry's joined us.
We all went to dinner later down the street from the hotel.v
Here we are at the table. There were about 22 of us. It was a nice evening and we were ready to get back for a good nights sleep.
