August 16 Day 46 Chesaning MI to Imlay City MI 73 miles. 1355 climbing

This ride promised to be a beautiful one. Chris had us on secondary roads off the main highways.
Little did we know that those roads would be gravel and bumpy and sandy and long
But you know it was a lot of fun. It made the ride more challenging and adventurous. I really don't ride off road, biut the few things I learned from the little I have done is, speed is your friend, don't hit your brakes and keep your butt back on the saddle. I passed these tidbits on to Suzanne and we had a lot of fun riding gravel.
We stopped for a break and this little pond had Lilly pads with small purple flowers.
I have know idea why these people had this outside their gate, but it was cute. It probably helped when others were looking for their home, because this was out in the middle of nowhere.
We eventually came to the end of the road and it was also the start of the bike trail we were looking for. It was a lovely trail. Smooth asphalt and tree covered.
This is Patrick a friend of Nevin's who has joined us. Here he is with a very patient Doogie hoping for a little nibble of sandwich from him.
Tessa set up the Lunch stop. It was in the town of Columbiaville.
Columbiaville's veteran's memorial in the park.
Here's the   barn for the day.
Outside a VFW we passed they had this Huey on display. It brought back memories for Jim of Viet Nam. For me when we got to ride in one at Ft. Rucker in Alabama. We got to ride in the gunners seat on the side.
More gravel after lunch. The next trail we were to ride was in a terrible state so Some locals gave us directions into town. This afternoon Rogers wife Sondra will join us. We're happy for Roger heis so excited to have her here. Tomorrow we head into Canada!
