August 15 Day 45 Greenville MI to Chesaning MI 61 Miles 391 climbing

This morning we started out and it was CHILLY. 51 degrees starting out and went down to 49 degrees. BRRR!  As long as the sun was out it was warm. With the breeze it was chilly.
The little colt was having a fun morning. Hanging out with the big horses.
In Carson City Michigan they have this wonderful play ground area in their park. What I found most interesting is the population of this town is 1,093.
This guy has quite a sense of humor. I missed it the first time had to go back a get a photo of it.
Behind Les's rest stop was this marvelous old fire truck.
This road is where our lunch stop for the day was. The name of the road had no bearing on the great lunch Tessa and Joy put together.
This old barn had lightening rods on it. I haven't seen lightening rods in many years. When we left the lunch stop and went on down the road I saw at least 5 barns with rods on them.
This little guy was on so cute I had to stop and take a photo of him.Jim and I got out of the pace line  into town to ride and look at stuff along the way.
We looked in our rear view mirrors and saw this car coming down the road with a wide load sign on it. We decided to pull off the road because the shoulder was so narrow. This was the wide load. Whew!
Walking into town for dinner we came up on this clock in the median of the street.
This house was built from some plans that you could order by mail order in the late 1800's.
There are quite  a few homes in Chesaning that are really grand. In it's day this town was a bustling community that emerged from the lumber industry. It still is a busy place
Chris was telling me that the towns that developed east of the Mississippi happened because of the stagecoach. Most towns that first developed were the result of the distance a stagecoach could travel in a day and that was 30 miles.
