July 11 Day 11 Orofino Id to Lowell ID. 43 miles 615 climbing. It's my birthday

Trees are starting to take over the landscape. Which also means more logging trucks.

While we were riding we could see and smell smoke in the air.Sure enough down the road we found this helicopter dipping a huge soft bucket into the river then it would fly off to dump it on the fire.

Had to take a picture of this mill. This is a place where they process cedar for mulch. It smelled really good along that part of the ride.
They were doing construction on the road for several miles. They would stop traffic one way then let everyone go. This guy made us off our bikes on what they called the pilot truck that would take all the cars down the road. We found out later none of the others had to do that.  When we did get to where they were working they were putting rumble strips down the middle of the road.

This is our accommodations for the night. Out back there was an open air, claw foot tub. You had to light a propane fire under it to heat it up. Boy did it get it hot! There was no electricity, no running water. Guess where all that was in the cabins  others were sytaying in. An out house and showers down the hill. For us the issue the dogs could slip under the zippered door. They stayed on their long tethers the whole time.
We all went down to the river to swim. It was surprisingly warm. Dogs loved it however the current was really strong. We kept them on their leashes so we could real them in.
Doogie being cute and adorable.
This is Nancy Notely . She is responsible for getting this trip together along with her friend Sharon.
She approached Chris to help her with some logjstics to ride across the U.S. for her 60 th birthday.
This is Chris Kegle and myself. You will have to ask me later what was so funny, he tells great stories
This was the end to a great birthday. Another interesting place I have celebrated another birthday.

  1. We've been traveling in California and are late reading your blog. Happy belated birthday! Sounds like it was a good one!
