Retread/5th Wheel Adventures Jan 13 Tues thru Jan15th Thurs.

We are up and on the road headed for South Padre Island. The town of Luling was a pretty neat town, Had a lot of different things going on.
I'm not sure what this building was. I think it may have been a gas staton. But I am sure these Christmas trees are hiding out behind it
All of the oil pumps were decorated in some fashion. We saw one that looked like a teeter totter.
Another one had killer whales on it. And this one with little rubber ducks in swimming in water.
I'm sure Doogie was wanting to ask if we were there yet.
Well I haven't found any memorable barns, but this gas station was pretty cool. I hope it wasn't the
Result of the dropping prices in oil.
I love the bright colors of this busy fruit stand.
Finally getting to South Padre. This is the long causeway to the island. If you notice it is just as gloomy
And cold as it was in Austin. By the way we're headed here to get away from the cold.
This is the KOA Camp we will be in for the next few weeks. Our trailer is the last one on the right.
I wanted to show this photo because this shows how Palm trees look in a 20 mile an hour wind.
This is our Tesla trailer all settled in. Walking the pups we went down to the water and found
A place Peir 19. With it being so cold and windy we knew we would mosey down there for dinner.
Above is the bar of Pier19 with an assortment of bar people..
And the is the Resturant part. With it so chilly outside this was a great place to spend the evening.
We needed to take the pups out for another walk. The crazy thing is we are having to still bundle up. Me in my ski jacket, wooly cap, and gloves. Jim in his thermal shirt and heavy vest.
The weather man says it will clear up in a few days.

Jim went down to get the propane tanks filled and found out that the aircraft carrier  Constellation would be passing by on it's way to Brownsville to be scraped. We went down to watch it pass.
When you see it go by the buildings you could see how big it was.
It left Seattle Washinton and had to go down around South America to get to the gulf. Over a
125 days it's been traveling. It was sad to know that it would know longer exist after serving for 53 years. It served Viet Nam in the late 70's and the no fly zone over Iraq in 1995.  She hadn't sailed since 2003.
We went on to walk the beach. This statue is of Jesus and was donated
By the family of Gustavo De La Lastra. In English it says.
Father receive the souls of these brave fishermen who have sailed through this pass and never returned

Diggity and Doogie's first taste of salt water. The water came up and covered their feet. They pretty much avoided it after that. Too cold!
We met this couple with a dog that Doogie ran with, however Diggity decided he was jealous
And wanted to challenge the pup. We found out Diggity needs to stay on his leash when other dogs are around.

Back at the trailer we just settled in to for the evening. It was windy and blustery all night. Thanks goodness the beach front view Jim wanted had us pointed into the wind.
